This is a basic arduino bot that walks on four legs and can detect and avoid obstacles. The idea was inspired from the Make Magazine: Arduino Bots and Gadgets and built at E4D Banjarapalya makespace.
Rural makerspaces and disruptive learning
The iNSECT Bot is one of the first projects at the E4D, Banjarapalya makerspace, which is located 30 kms from the city of Bangalore, in a village called Banjarapalya.
The idea behind doing this project was to spark an interest among the students, towards robotics and electronics, without scaring them with difficulties right at the beginning. Hence, I chose this fairly easy project, where the code was pre-written by me, and their job was mainly assembling and making all the connections correctly. The funny part was that they wanted to re-do it all over again, without my help, and they did. Now I a have a small robotics club in this small village.
