What is a Makerspace?

Makerspace (also referred to as hacklab, hackerspace, hackspace, fablas, or DIY spaces) is a community-operated workspace where people with similar interests come together to share resources and knowledge, work on projects, and meet other people. They provide access to tools (like 3D printers, lathes, CNC routers etc.) and space to help the community members to work on projects that wouldn't be possible to create with the resources available to individuals working alone.

Makerspaces combine the elements from machine shops, workshops, and/or studios and hence are very effective in technological experimentation, hardware development, and idea prototyping.
