Line A is where the CG of the laptop will be at. If the CG of the laptop was on line B, there would be very little bending moment on the back pillars. The bending moment on the back pillars will be weight of the laptop multiplied by distance between A and B. However, for best overall stability of the structure, the CG of the laptop should be ideally above line C.

We were most worried about the bending moment(BM) on that back pillars. This BM will affect the pillar joints. That is why if you notice we bought line B closer to line A by attached the pillar closer to the center of the top deck.

Typically most other laptops are larger and heaver that macbook air. Larger laptop means line A will be closer to B. So for most laptops the bending moment on the back pillar will be more or less the same. If you have a really big laptop, then line A could end up on the other side of line B, in which case your entire stand will be unstable.

Why did we use two anti-skidders instead of one? Two reasons
1) Two anti skidders far apart gives the laptop a lot of stability - both rotational and static. Obviously this can be also achieved by adding a really long anti-skidder.

2) Makes it possible to open the lid of the macbook air when it is on the stand. Notice that macbook air has a notch just infront of the trackpad, that is meant to help open the lid. If we had used only one anti-skidder, it will have to at the center and it will make this notch inaccessible.

Notice how the 2 pieces of wood(anti-skidders) that prevents the laptop from skidding off the slanted surface is the right height for macbook air and a little too short for Asus Laptop. If you are using any other laptop you might want to change the height of the anti-skidders to match your laptop.

The rubber wood was cut to required dimensions. The surface of the rubber wood was pretty good. All we had to do was light sanding using the random orbit sander.
