Raspberry Pi is an amazing board. Its is really suited to do a lot of Internet of things based projects. Literally its a mini laptop. You can run what ever on it. Compared to Arduino, Raspberry is a little more complex to pick up. Arduino is a microprocessor. Raspberry pi is a mini mother board. For certain stuff Arduino is way better. For example, Arduino is way better when you specifically have a single thread application. Sometimes you want to do one thing and do that in predictable intervals eg - robotics competitions. Arduino is better then. For slightly complex application that involves a lot of high end functionalities Raspberry pi is the definitely the way to go.
