Product Description

The L293D is quadruple high-current half-H drivers.

The L293D is designed to provide bidirectional drive currents of up to 600-mA at voltages from 4.5 V to 36 V.

L293D is capable to drive inductive loads such as relays, solenoids, dc and bipolar stepping motors, as well as other high-current/high-voltage loads in positive-supply applications.

Run four solenoids, two DC motors or one bi-polar or uni-polar stepper with up to 600mA per channel using the L293D. These are perhaps better known as "the drivers in our Adafruit Motorshield". If you accidentally damaged the drivers in a shield, you can use one of these puppies to replace it. Or you can breadboard something on your own!

Each chip contains two full H-bridges (four half H-bridges). That means you can drive four solenoids, two DC motors bi-directionally, or one stepper motor. Just make sure they're good for under 600 mA since that's the limit of this chip. They do handle a peak of 1.2A but that's just for a short amount of time. What we like most about this particular driver is that it comes with built in kick-back diodes internally so you dont have to worry about the inductive kick damaging your project or driver

There's a PWM input per driver so you can control motor speed. Runs at 5V logic. Good for motor voltages from 4.5V up to 36V! This wont work well for 3V motors. The motor voltage is separate from the logic voltage.

The L293D is a quadruple push-pull 4 channel driver capable of delivering 600 mA per channel. The L293D is ideal for controlling the forward/reverse/brake motions of small DC motors controlled by a microcontroller

The L293D is an extremely popular Motor Driver IC(H-Bridge) for controlling DC and bipolar stepper motors.

You can use this IC to control 2 DC motors with individual directional and speed control or just switch on and off 4 DC motors. This IC can be used to control DC motors with microcontrollers and also other analog circuits.

The L293D can control motors which consume upto 600 mA of current. For higher current requirements go for the L293NE, which is pin compatible with the L293D and can deliver upto 1 A of current on each channel.

PUSH-PULL Four Channel Driver With Diodes

General Description
The Device is a monolithic integrated high voltage, high current four channel driver designed to accept standard DTL or TTL logic levels and drive inductive loads (such as relays solenoides, DC and stepping motors) and switching power transistors.
To simplify use as two bridges each pair of channels is equipped with an enable input. A separate supply input is provided for the logic, allowing operation at a lower voltage and internal clamp diodes are included.
This device is suitable for use in switching applications at frequencies up to 5 kHz.
The L293D is assembled in a 16 lead plastic packaage which has 4 center pins connected together and used for heatsinking.
